New year is an old mining town that is now nothing more than a ghost town, located just north west of Lewistown. Founded in 1880, this town managed to stick around until about the 1920s when it was completed abandoned. There was a little coal seam in the area, but it mostly produced a couple hundred ounces of gold. Even when this town was at its fullest, New Year never had anything more than a little school and a post office.
