The Highwood Mountains is an isolated island range that is located in Cascade, Chouteau, and Judith Basin counties. This Range covers approximately 1,799 square miles of the Central Alkalic Province. The Highwood mountains where included in the Highwood Mountain National Forest until 1908, then it became part of the Lewis and Clark National Forest. The highest point in this mountain range is Highwood Baldy, which stands at 7,670 feet.
