The Box Elder!! Box Elder Montana in located on Highway 87 between Havre and Big Sandy. Box Elder is considered the headquarters of the Chippewa-Cree tribe. Being the headquarters of the Chippewa- Cree tribe, means that Box Elder is also the home of the Stone Child College, a public tribal community college. Originally this town was called Bremer after an early homesteader, but was later named Box Elder after a creek nearby that was lined with box elder trees.
