Florence Montana is located south of Missoula. Originally this town was called one horse because of a creek that flowed near by. In the 1880s, the town of one horse and Carlton grow together to become Florence. Florence is named after A.B. Hammonds, who was important in the logging industry at the times, daughter. The town sits where Hammond had originally set up the sawmill for the area.
