Shonkin Montana is located to the east of Highwood, and was allegedly named for the Blackfeet work for the Highwood Mountains. This Montana town inspired the naming of the Shonkin Sag! This is a prehistoric river channel that was formed by the Missouri River and glacial meltwater from Glacial Lake Great Falls. This Sag runs from south of Highwood and runs to the Judith River, which is 100 miles. It ranges rom a quart mile to 2 miles wide and is about 500 feet deep.
