Garnet is a ghost town that is located northwest of Dummond. This is an old mining town, that thrived in the 1800 and into the 1900. Garnet got its name because of the ruby colored stone that was found in the area. At the peak on the boom in 1898, Garnet had: four stores, four hotels, three livery stables, two barber shops, a union hall, a school with 41 students, a butcher shop, a candy shop, a doctor’s office, an assay office, and thirteen saloons! In 1912 there was a fire in town that took out most of the commercial buildings, then by 1940 Garnet was a ghost town
